Jonathan Ferrabee
From the time he was young, Jonathan was always attracted to the lower end of the sound spectrum - his eyes and ears always on the bass player! This, and his love for the warmth of acoustic music, led him to his instrument of choice.
Jonathan came to bluegrass music just a couple of short years before Concession 23 was formed and has since become a respected bass player in the bluegrass community, garnering three consecutive Bass Player of the Year nominations from the Central Canada Bluegrass Awards. His hard driving approach to rhythm and his inventive bass lines create a strong foundation for the sound of Concession 23. He gets tremendous satisfaction working with his bluegrass buddies in Concession 23, making a kind of music together that reaches deeply into his rural roots growing up on a farm in Quebec's Eastern Townships.
Jonathan has also earned a reputation outside of Bluegrass music. He can be heard with jazz combos Jim and Tonic and Swing Time, and has backed up Ottawa jazz vocalist Karen Oxorn. Lately Jonathan has enjoyed session work and performing for Lynn Hansen, Trevor Alguire, and others.
